The reconstruction work at the Old Bega Hospital is progressing well, and on track for completion later this year.
The building dates from 1888 and had been used as a community centre since the 1980s. It has been sitting dormant since 2004 when a fire damaged most of the building, until Leser Build commenced on site in June 2023.
The majority of the masonry remained intact but required repair and repointing. A handful of rooms remained partially intact, but the scope of reconstruction required was extensive: new roof, new floors, new internal wall render, new ceilings, reconstructed joinery (an interpretation of the original, based on remnants of what remained on site), new services (stormwater, hydraulic, electrical, fire), improved accessibility, new amenities and a community kitchen.
