The National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards is an annual celebration of outstanding practice, awarding excellence in conservation of Aboriginal, built, natural and cultural heritage. White Bay Power Station has been shortlisted in the 2024 Built Conservation awards section.
“The high quality of entries created robust discussions between the judges this year” said Matthew Devine, Chair of the National Trust Heritage Awards Jury. Devine was joined on the panel by esteemed jurors Ann Toy, Barrina South, Dr Caitlin Allen, David Burdon, Kathryn Pitkin AM, Dr Libby Gallagher and Peter John Cantrill.
In collaboration with Place Management NSW, the 2022–2023 works with Design 5 as lead and heritage architects focused on remediation and conservation to make safe, stabilise and secure the building and its machinery contents. A second phase of the project involved modest changes and insertions so that parts of the building can be accessed and used by the public for cultural and community use; the first being the 24th Biennale of Sydney to be held from March to June 2024.
The winners will be announced at the National Trust Heritage Awards ceremony on Friday 17th May.
