CONSERVATION
Completed
Perched atop an escarpment overlooking Sydney Harbour is the Millers Point Townhouse – a rare example of the City’s early housing. Constructed in 1847, the pair of townhouses had suffered from extensive and unsympathetic renovations during the 1940s. In 2019, Design 5 were engaged to carry out detailed investigations into the existing buildings, which then formed the basis of a program of conservation works including restoration, adaptation and refurbishment. The project restores the legibility and sophistication of the original John Bibb design whilst enlivening the buildings’ character through contemporary interventions that creatively interpret lost elements.
