The NSW AIA Architecture Awards recognise outstanding design and its impact on communities. This year, the AIA have shortlisted the White Bay Power Station in the Heritage category.
The nomination acknowledges the significant conservation work completed between 2022 and 2023, led by Design 5 as the principal and heritage architects in partnership with Placemaking NSW. The initial phase focused on remediation to stabilise and secure the historic site and its machinery. The second phase involved modest changes and insertions, allowing for a dynamic cultural and community hub that accommodates cultural, artistic, and commercial activities. The first of these was the 24th Biennale of Sydney, hosted at the site from March to June 2024. The White Bay Power Station remains a widely recognised harbourside landmark and will play a key role in the urban renewal of Bays West.
Winners will be announced at the NSW AIA Architecture Awards ceremony on Friday, 20 June 2025.
