Design 5 – Architects’ has won the Greenway Award for Heritage at the 2025 NSW Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Architecture Awards for the revitalisation of the White Bay Power Station. As the principal and heritage architects, Design 5 – Architects have led the extensive conservation project in collaboration with Place Management NSW, which was recognised for its respectful restoration and adaptive reuse of one of Sydney’s most iconic industrial sites.

The project was delivered in two main phases. The first phase focused on crucial remediation efforts to stabilise the structure and preserve key heritage machinery, completed in 2023. In the second phase, the team introduced a series of carefully considered interventions that have transformed the site into a flexible venue for cultural and community use, completed in 2024.

Situated on the harbour in Bays West, the White Bay Power Station remains a striking presence on Sydney’s urban landscape and is expected to play a pivotal role in the precinct’s ongoing renewal.
