HOUSE, STANWELL PARK, NSW
Completion: 1999-2000
Client: Private

The owners of this small 1950s timber and fibro beach house wished to conserve the simplicity of the original design while adding a new kitchen, bathroom and laundry, a separate study and a new carport. Design 5 created a series of pavilions for these spaces which stepped up the slope behind the original cottage, linked by a brick paved stepped terrace. The simple roof plane of the original cottage was repeated in each of the pavilions, each overlapping the one below to provide weather protection and a covered way. A new timber deck was added to the front of the house to take advantage of the extensive ocean views.
