PILLIGA FOREST
Heritage Centre at Baradine, NSW

Completion: 2002
Client: Pilliga Forest Aboriginal Management Committee

Sketch Design Proposals

The project required the design of a new cultural heritage centre for the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community of the Pilliga Forest region. Surrounded by cypress pine and ironbark forests, the building was to demonstrate the continous and evolving relationships between the forest, the land and its people.

The building is intended to be a cultural resource and teaching facility for the local community as well as for visitors to the area. It will incorporate local environmentally responsible materials as well as passive natural climate control through a double layer ventilated roof.

Changes in government policy towards the Pilliga Forest region have prevented the project from proceeding further.
